Let’s Talk About Your Smile

Let’s Talk About Your SmileWe’re Dr. Chris Hammond of Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry. Our office is located at 3575 North 100 East, Suite 200 in Provo. One of the best things about being Orem area dentists is interacting with our patients. During initial dental consultations, we listen carefully to our patient’s short and long term dental goals.

We enjoy discussing options and developing effective treatment plans tailored specifically to each person. Some of our clients desire a total smile makeover. I explain in detail the treatments available including teeth whitening, dental veneers, orthodontia, crown restoration, and dental implants.

If a client is nervous about undergoing treatment, we discuss oral conscious sedation. Oral conscious sedation, sometimes called oral sedation dentistry, is a great option for anxious patients. Dental visits do not have to be painful!

After the treatment has been completed, it is very gratifying for me to see my patient’s reaction to their new smile.

I never get tired of creating dramatic smile transformations for the best clients in Utah!

If you have been considering a smile makeover, let’s talk about your smile. Call Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry at 801-374-0070 to schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation.

Tooth-Colored Fillings in Orem

Tooth-Colored Fillings in Orem Hello! Welcome to the Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry blog. If this your first visit, we hope you find useful information about our Provo cosmetic dentistry practice. If you have read some of our previous articles, we are glad you checked back with us. We post new articles regularly.

We are Dr. Chris Hammond, DMD.  We have been practicing dentistry in Provo since 1996. Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry is a full-service dental office located at 3575 North 100 East, Suite 200 in Provo. In addition to providing comprehensive examinations and deep cleanings for clients in the Orem area, we perform all types of tooth restorations.

When a tooth has decay or has been damaged, a dental restoration is needed to ‘restore’ the tooth to its previous intact condition. A dental filling is one of the most common and well-known types of restorations. A dental filling is used to repair decayed or damaged tooth surfaces. Most people have a few fillings in their mouth.

If you have old silver amalgam fillings, we can replace them with nearly-invisible fillings tooth colored. These fillings are made out of a strong composite resin. Many of our Orem general dentistry patients have replaced their old silver fillings with fillings matched to their teeth. You can improve your smile instantly and relatively inexpensively by getting rid of the ‘metal’.

Another reason some Orem clients have had their old fillings replaced is because they are concerned about the possible heavy metal toxicity of the mercury in the silver.

If you would like to replace your amalgam fillings, call us at 801-374-0070 to schedule a consultation. We are currently accepting new patients and would be happy to show you around our Orem cosmetic dental office and introduce you to our friendly team.  We also offer dental sedation for anxious patients.

Smile – it increases your face value!

Find A Dentist

There are a lot of places to look for a dentist, but its not always easy to find a dentist in Orem.

It used to be that in Orem you could find a dentist just by walking down to the corner of the street. Like many small towns, there would be a dentist on the corner of ‘north and main’, just up from the fire house, and across from the bakery.

Today, finding a general dentistry practice around Orem can take a little more time, and a little more effort. Our local Orem community is spread out a little more, and there is more than one option for finding a local dentist in Orem.

Let’s look at a few of the ways to find a local dentist in Orem:

The old timers among us still reach for the yellow pages when we look to find a dentist in our local Orem community. The yellow pages have been a standard for dentists since the beginning, and are a quick way to get a good list of local Orem dentists.

Studies are showing an ever increasing number of Orem consumers are turning to their Internet connection to find a dentist. To find a dentist online can mean more than just a name and a phone number; many dentists, like us, have additional information on their website that will help you gain a better understanding of their practice and the services they provide such as cosmetic dentistry.

Many people find a dentist in the Orem community through printed mailers and flyers that come to your door. Orem dentists spend a lot of money on these types of flyers, which can often carry a discount opportunity or special promotion.

The most popular method used to find a local dentist? …Word of mouth. Studies have shown that people in Orem are more willing to listen to a family member or close friend when it comes to finding a local Orem dentist.

We understand this last point, and make it our job to keep our patients happy, healthy, informed and comfortable during their visit to the dentist. We know if you leave happy, your friends and family in the Orem area will hear about us, too.

If you are looking for a dentist in Orem, please give us a call. You can reach us at 801-374-0070.  We also offer sedation dentistry services for patients who are fearful about dental work.

If you know a friend who is trying to find a dentist in the Orem area, please pass our name along.

We look forward to seeing you both!

Beware Of An Acidic Diet In Orem

Orem tooth strengthening Most Orem folks don’t often think of a tooth as a body part that fluctuates in strength. Our teeth seem to have a steady hardness and dependably grind food whenever we need them. However, teeth are dynamic organisms with chemical processes that occur continually.

The protective enamel that covers the softer interior is made of minerals. Enamel demineralizes (loses some of its density) when coming in contact with acids. Saliva can dilute and neutralize acid so the tooth can remineralize (re-harden). This process isn’t instantaneous, however. While the enamel is soft, the tooth is vulnerable to losing a microscopic outer layer of enamel. If the erosion continues, the much softer dentin is exposed. Eventually, the tooth may need to be extracted.

At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we are noticing an increase in cases of serious acid erosion. It is apparent that the typical Orem diet is becoming more acidic.

The list of acidic foods may surprise you. They include eggs, gravy, asparagus, chicken, cottage cheese, honey, fish, ham, butter, sour cream, aged cheese, and yogurt with active cultures. Generally, food with a high sugar or artificial sweetener content are highly acidic.

Now let’s talk about drinks. You probably already know that soda pop and wine are not good for your teeth. Orem teens that sip soda all day can have acid erosion while their young teeth should be at their strongest. In addition to soda, energy drinks are very popular in Utah and Orem cosmetic dentists are noticing the effects on their dental patients’ tooth enamel.

If you drink soda or energy drinks often, you may want to drink water or chew sugarless gum after downing a can. Stimulating saliva production can speed up the remineralization process.

If your teeth have become more sensitive in general, or in response to hot or cold foods or beverages, you may have acid erosion. To schedule an examination with Dr. Chris Hammond at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, call 801-374-0070 today.

We are a full-service cosmetic dental office with hundreds of satisfied clients in Provo and Orem We are located at 3575 North 100 East, Suite 200 in Provo. We are working to raise awareness of the oral health dangers of acid erosion. We hope you have benefited from this Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry blog article and look forward to your visit.  We also offer cosmetic dentistry and sedation dentistry services.

Prevention-Oriented Dentistry

tooth decay pictures at https://www.cosmeticdentistryutahcounty.com Are you a Orem area parent of young children? Do you want them to develop better oral hygiene habits than you did when you were young? Perhaps you have a beautiful smile and want to prevent tooth decay. Many Orem people have a mouth full of fillings and don’t want to add another one to their collection.

At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we have a prevention-oriented philosophy of dental care.

Your first step toward dental health begins with a prevention consultation with Dr. Chris Hammond.

Orem dental patients of all ages need to start with an exam to determine their current status. Your dental condition is influenced by your dietary habits, previous dental work, physical health, medications, lifestyle and family history. After a comprehensive analysis, Dr. Chris Hammond can establish a decay prevention plan just for you.

A prevention plan is a multi-faceted approach designed to maintain optimum dental health. It involves affordable preventative general dentistry services at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry. Twice-yearly exams reveal early problems before they progress. Deep cleanings prevent a multitude of serious dental issues for our Orem and Utah County patients who faithfully keep their regular cleaning appointments.

Oral health cannot be maintained solely in our office. Daily brushing and flossing is essential. A healthy diet is necessary and will deliver benefits to your whole body – not just your teeth.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral Conscious Sedation Some people experience severe anxiety when undergoing dental treatment. With oral conscious sedation, it is possible to relax during dental procedures instead of being tense and fearful. Oral sedation dentistry, relaxation dentistry, conscious sedation and anxiety-free dentistry are all terms used to describe this type of treatment. In addition to alleviating anxiety, oral conscious sedation can help patients with a variety of conditions.

You may want to consider oral conscious sedation if you have any of the following issues:

  • Strong gag reflex
  • Fear of needles
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Fear and anxiety associated with dental treatment
  • Difficulty getting numb
  • A history of negative dental experiences
  • Trouble controlling body movement due to Parkinson’s disease, Cerebral Palsy or related condition
  • Need extensive dental treatment requiring lengthy dental visits

If you have avoided cosmetic dental treatment due to any of these factors, give us a call at 801-374-0070. We can give you more information about sedation dentistry options and help you determine which one is right for you. At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry we do all we can to make your visit as comfortable as possible. We look forward to discussing your oral health and dental goals.

Sedation Dentistry In Provo

Provo sedation dentistry Many Provo dentistry patients have discovered the benefits of anxiety-free dentistry (sometimes called sleep dentistry). There are three main types of sedation options available in the Provo area.

Inhalation

Nitrous Oxide, sometimes called ‘laughing gas‘ has been used in Provo cosmetic dental offices for over a century, because, in many ways, it is an ideal sedative. It begins to work quickly, but then wears off as soon as the Provo dental patient stops inhaling it. Breathing nitrous oxide can produce warm tingling sensations and a feeling of euphoria.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral sedatives take longer to work than nitrous, but produce a calmer state for many nervous Provo dental patients. Triazolam and diazepam are common oral sedatives used in dentistry. These sedative medications are routinely prescribed by Provo physicians for anxiety, insomnia, and muscle spasms.

Oral sedation is a good sedation choice for anxious patients who require a lengthy dental procedure. After the dental visit, it takes a while for the medication to wear off. A Provo conscious sedation patient should not plan to drive home after undergoing oral sedation.

IV Sedation

Like nitrous, intra-venous sedation starts working immediately as the sedative enters the bloodstream. IV sedation usually produces the deepest state of relaxation. IV patients can dream away the entire procedure and wake up calm and relaxed.

To schedule a sedation dentistry consultation, call Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry at 801-374-0070. We have the answer for your dental anxiety.
