Keeping Dental Patients Comfortable In Orem

Keeping Dental Patients Comfortable in Alexandria

Pain isn’t fun. Your Orem family dentist knows this, and that is why the dental team at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry have made patient comfort a top priority. In conjunction with creating a relaxing environment, your dentist has various medications that can reduce and even eliminate pain associated with different dental procedures to give you a more enjoyable experience.

Some of the most common pain-relieving medications used in Orem cosmetic dental offices and around the country are topical anesthetics. These are swabbed directly onto mouth tissue so they only numb the very surface layers. Topical anesthetics can reduce the pain of mouth sores, or they can be applied to prepare the mouth for an injection.

Local anesthetics are injected into mouth tissue (usually the gums) to block the nerve sensations to specific areas of the mouth. Orem dentists numb the mouth in this way before filling cavities, treating gum disease, or before certain cosmetic dentistry procedures.

More involved dental procedures may necessitate the need for nitrous oxide or even general anesthesia. Ask us about sedation dentistry and oral conscious sedation.

It is very common for your dentist to recommend an over the counter analgesic to relieve pain after a dental visit. These medications include aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen.

Because your Orem cosmetic dentist will most likely use a pain reliever during the dental visit or prescribe something for you to take after the treatment, make sure you jot down a complete list of medications you are taking, including herbal supplements, before each appointment.

We’re Dr. Hammond and we want Orem residents to be informed about their dental care, especially as it pertains to pain relief during dental treatment. If you are in the Orem area and are looking for quality dental care, please contact our office today at 801-374-0070. Our continuing education staff would be happy to talk to you about cosmetic dentistry, sedation dentistry, implant dentistry, and the other services we offer.

Provo Cosmetic Dentistry at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry

Cosmetic Denistry in Orem Do you have a damaged tooth that causes you embarrassment? Even if all your other teeth are nicely shaped and pearly white, guess what other people notice? Yep, the ugly duckling. You have probably experienced that yourself when you have looked at a smile that contains one discolored tooth. No matter how hard you try, the unsightly one is impossible to ignore.

A beautiful smile is an important component of your overall appearance. Unattractive teeth draw the eye away from other pleasing features such as thick shiny hair, gorgeous eyes or a peaches and cream complexion.

Fortunately, there are several cosmetic dentistry procedures to restore or repair one or more teeth. At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry in Provo, we can complete most of them in one short visit. Think about it; you could achieve a stunning smile in less than an afternoon!

Veneers, Bonding and Cosmetic Implant Dentistry
Dental bonding is an affordable cosmetic dentistry procedure available in Provo at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry. We use dental bonding in a variety of applications. In addition to repairing damage, dental bonding can close gaps between teeth. Porcelain veneers are another minimally invasive cosmetic fix. Like cosmetic dental bonding, veneers correct chips, cracks and improve tooth shape.

What if your problem is not an unattractive tooth but a missing tooth? Don’t despair, a beautiful smile is still possible in the Provo area with dental implants.

For more information about veneers, bonding, implants and other cosmetic denistry procedures, call Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry at 801-374-0070. We are conveniently located at 3575 N 100 E, Ste 200 in Provo. We provide advanced laser and sedation dentistry for patients in Provo and the surrounding areas. We look forward to showing you cosmetic dentistry ‘before & after’ pictures.

Re-Contour Your Teeth At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry

If your crooked, discolored teeth keep you from smiling and you feel like there is nothing you can do about it- please give us a call! We are Drs. Hammond and we and our staff at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry have been giving the people of Orem something to smile about since 1996.

If you are disappointed with the smile mother nature gave you let me help you create the smile of your dreams. New procedures and materials now make it possible to completely revamp and restyle your mouth in Orem.

If your teeth are uneven, Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry has several options to correct that. We can re-contour your teeth by removing a small portion of your enamel to change the length or shape of your tooth. If more is required to improve your smile we can offer you porcelain veneers or bonding.

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are permanently attached to the fronts of your teeth, correcting any imperfections. They last much longer than dental bonding and preserve more natural tooth structure than crowns.

Many Orem resident’s teeth have become discolored by drinking colas, tea, or coffee. If you have stained or discolored teeth and dream of having pearly white teeth then check out the many teeth whitening options at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry.

The Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry Guide To Dry Mouth

The Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry Guide To Dry Mouth

Many folks in our Utah County community experience dry mouth occasionally. Some develop dry mouth in social situations or when they are under a lot of stress. Sporadic or infrequent dry mouth is usually not a problem. Constant dry mouth, or xerostomia, is not only irritating, it can lead to severe health problems.

Utah County people should not take their saliva for granted. Your saliva plays a very important role in maintaining your health. One of its roles is to help digest your food. The moment food enters your mouth, saliva starts breaking it down so your body can metabolize it. If you don’t produce enough saliva to perform this task your body may not be getting important nutrients needed to stay healthy.

Saliva also functions as a disinfectant by cleansing the mouth of leftover food, bacteria, and fungi.
This helps prevent tooth decay and infections. Many Utah County dental services patients don’t realize that many of the foods we eat are very acidic and our saliva helps counteract those acids in our mouths.

We are Drs. Hammond and we, along with our staff at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, have been treating xerostomia since 1996. We recommend cutting back on caffeine in such drinks as cola, coffee, and tea. Not only do these beverages stain and discolor your teeth, the caffeine can contribute to dry mouth. We also recommend drinking water throughout the day to make sure you are adequately hydrated.

Tobacco and alcohol can also contribute to dry mouth. Consult your Utah County physician if you are taking medication that is causing your dry mouth.

Dry mouth is not a natural part of aging, so call Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry today and schedule an appointment if your dry mouth is getting worse as you grow older:

Help Me Provo; I’m Afraid Of The Dentist!

Orem Sleep Dentistry If you are afraid of your Provo cosmetic dentist, you are not alone. At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we encounter many nervous first-time Provo dental patients. How do we calm their fears, provide a comfortable dental environment and earn lifelong clients?

1) We carefully explain the findings of the initial dental examination and thoroughly outline any recommended procedures. The consultation also includes a discussion about pain control including oral conscious sedation medications. This allows our general dentistry clients to make informed decisions about their oral health and necessary dental procedures.

2) Drs. Hammond practice gentle, pain-free dentistry. Provo cosmetic dentistry treatment will not begin until you are numb. Keep in mind, however, that every dentistry patient reacts to numbing agents and sedation medications differently.

Speak up quickly if you start to feel discomfort. We will pause treatment, administer additional analgesic and wait until it takes effect. At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we never rush cosmetic dental or restorative procedures.

We will do our best to make you comfortable, whether you are receiving dental veneers, undergoing crown-lengthening treatment, having your teeth whitened, or replacing your old silver fillings.

3) We provide many in-office amenities at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry which help our dental patients focus on something pleasant during cosmetic dental treatment. Not every Provo dental patient chooses sedation dentistry. Sometimes chemical-free diversions such as listening to your favorite music provide a diversion while letting you remain clear-headed.

At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we understand dental anxiety and will help you overcome it. We are located at 3575 N 100 E, Ste 200, Provo, UT 84604.

Saliva And Provo’s Dental Health

Saliva And Provo

Hi. We’re Drs. Hammond. Welcome to our Provo general dentistry blog. Today we’ll be looking at the complexity and importance of your saliva. Though most people in Provo or the surrounding areas may think it’s gross, saliva is essential to dental health as well as digestion.

Saliva is mostly water, but a small portion of it is made up of enzymes, antibacterial substances, mucus, and minerals. The pH balance of the mouth is maintained by saliva, and pH balance is a key factor in the development of cavities and other forms of tooth decay.

The minerals in saliva help to maintain the enamel surface of the teeth. Immunoproteins in saliva inhibit the overgrowth of microbes in the mouth, thereby protecting the gums from gingivitis.

Now that Provo residents know how important saliva is to dental health, we’re sure you can see why ample salivary flow should concern you. For most of our Provo patients, everyday chewing is enough to stimulate salivary glands to release saliva. However, dry mouth, also known as xerostomia, is an ailment that should be dealt with quickly before oral health complications occur.

If you are in the Provo area and are looking for quality dental services and care, please contact our office today at 801-374-0070. We have been providing general and cosmetic dentistry in Provo since 1996.

Our friendly and professional staff would be happy to talk to you about cosmetic dentistry, sedation dentistry, porcelain veneers, Invisalign clear braces, and the other services we provide to our valued patients.

Does My Utah County Dentist Care About My Diet?

General Dentistry Utah County When people in the Utah County area think of diet and oral health, they probably think about the damage sweet drinks can cause to teeth. While it’s true that these sugars cause increased acidity in the mouth and lead to tooth decay, soda and sugary-fruit drinks are only part of the issue.

The typical American diet tends to be high in calories and low in nutrition, even here in Utah County.

If your body is lacking in certain nutrients, the tissues in the mouth may have trouble resisting infection. These infections can lead to gum disease.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has recently unveiled the MyPlate graphic to illustrate a healthy diet. Half of our meals should be composed of fruits and vegetables and the rest should be equally divided between lean protein, whole grains, and low-fat dairy.

While this is an excellent resource, dietary needs change throughout life, so it’s a good idea to call Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry at 801-374-0070 and schedule a check-up to see if your diet is affecting your teeth.

When you eat a balanced diet and feel your best, you’ll want to look your best, so be sure to ask our skilled and caring staff about the latest cosmetic dentistry procedures such as complete smile makeovers and same day restorations.

At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, our menu of services includes crowns, porcelain veneers, inlays, onlays, dental implants, tooth colored fillings, sealants, teeth whitening, and invisible braces. We also specialize in sedation dentistry for our Utah County patients who experience dental anxiety. Give our office a call today to schedule an appointment!

Save Money With Dental Implants at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry

Orem Tooth Implants

Q: For Orem residents: When is the least expensive tooth replacement method really the most expensive?

A: When it ends up costing far more in the long run.

Many Orem sedation dentistry clients who lose a tooth do not understand the importance of replacing it with a dental implant. They wrongly believe that one missing tooth is not a significant problem. In fact, some Orem people who have an abscessed tooth extracted are so glad the pain is gone that they forget that the extraction is not the solution. When a tooth is lost, the risk of losing the adjacent teeth increases dramatically.

Dr. David Scharf, a Board Certified Periodontist and Dental Implant Surgeon and a Clinical Assistant Professor at New York University College of Dentistry says:

“Many times consumers will choose to replace a missing tooth with a removable partial denture because it is the least expensive option. In the long run however, removable partial dentures may be more costly due the loss of adjacent teeth and the need for future replacements. Many people opt to replace teeth with dental implants because they do not compromise the survival of the adjacent teeth.”

Dr. Scharf notes…

“With the price of gasoline and food soaring people try to cut back wherever they can. Unfortunately choosing the least expensive options for tooth replacement can have some very costly ramifications down the road.”

If you are missing a tooth, you may still be able to save the adjacent teeth if you receive an implant soon. An implant bonds chemically with the jaw bone and helps maintain its stability.

To schedule a dental implant consultation, call Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry at 801-374-0070. In addition to cosmetic dentistry, we provide comprehensive general dentistry for families in the Orem, Utah area.
