Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry Smile Makeovers: It’s Not Just About Your Teeth

Orem Cosmetic Dentistry and Smile Makeovers

We have been creating spectacular smiles at our cosmetic dental practice since 1996. Each one of our Orem area smile makeover clients values their new smile almost as much as we value their trust.

Our loyal patients, along with our dedicated dental team, have made our professional careers particularly rewarding.

Working as a cosmetic dentist in Provo is more than just a job. Likewise, a smile makeover is more than straight, white, beautiful teeth – though that’s a big deal in itself!

Our cosmetic dentistry clients report that their new smile affects many areas of their life. Some have noticed increased effectiveness in their profession. Others enjoy a richer social life because they are now able to smile, laugh, and eat without self-consciousness.

One of our Provo patients who had been embarrassed by his damaged teeth for years says his new youthful smile has given him greater confidence and ambition.

Hello, we’re Dr. Hammond of Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry. At our practice, we expertly perform the most advanced cosmetic dental procedures available including teeth whitening, clear braces, dental crowns and bridges, porcelain veneers, cosmetic bonding, gum contouring, and crown lengthening. We also fill cavities with tooth-colored fillings that blend perfectly with your natural teeth.

Only need a cleaning? Our hygienists perform the most thorough deep cleanings for our family dentistry clients whose healthy smiles need nothing else.

If you don’t currently have a dentist, we invite you to visit our Orem cosmetic and general dentistry practice and discuss your dental goals. To schedule an exam, cleaning, or consultation, contact us today at 801-374-0070.

Same Day Smile Makeovers At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry In Utah County

Porcelain Veneers In Utah County Have you ever wished your Utah County cosmetic dentist could glue new pearly white covers on your existing teeth as easy as you paint a wall in your house? Guess what? With porcelain veneers, it’s possible. Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin tooth-shaped fronts that are permanently bonded to your natural teeth.

Unlike a crown procedure, your Utah County dentist does not need to remove tooth structure to place the restoration. If the teeth in question have decay, come see us immediately.

Call 801-374-0070 to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry in Provo, veneers are used alone and in combination with other cosmetic dental procedures to create complete smile makeovers. Because they can correct cosmetic tooth misalignment in one visit, porcelain veneers are sometimes referred to as ‘instant orthodontics’.

Do veneers look like natural teeth?
Skilled Orem cosmetic dental lab artists create porcelain veneers with the color, reflective properties, and translucency of natural teeth: perfect natural teeth, that is. In addition, porcelain veneers can be made in any size or shape.

Are veneers at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry
strong?
Porcelain veneers are fabricated out of extremely durable material. If you have questions about whether a veneer or dental crown is the best choice for you, talk to Dr. Hammond. Dr. Hammond will consider the size and condition of the tooth and its position in the mouth.

How long do veneers last?
Some Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry smile makeover clients have veneers they received over 15 years ago. (And they still look terrific!) If properly cared for, veneers can last as long as dental crowns.

Are porcelain veneers affordable in Orem
?
The cost of cosmetic dental veneers at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry is competitive with other premium cosmetic dental practices in the Orem area. We use what we believe is the top Utah County dental lab to create our client’s veneers and a significant portion of the cost of veneers goes to the lab. Porcelain veneers are often less expensive than crowns and clear braces. For questions about the cost of porcelain veneers, call our office at 801-374-0070.

Pregnancy And Oral Health In Provo

Family Dentistry and Pregnancy In Utah County

In today’s Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry blog we will discuss how pregnancy impacts your dental health. We are Dr. Hammond and we want all expectant mothers in Utah County to realize the importance of good oral hygiene during pregnancy. Because of the changes going on in a pregnant woman’s body there are potential dental health issues that may arise.

Many Provo area women experience morning sickness accompanied with vomiting. The gastric acid increases the acidity in the mouth which can easily lead to enamel loss and tooth decay. Heightened levels of progesterone and estrogen may relax the ligaments that support the teeth causing them to loosen.

Most Provo residents have experienced gingivitis, but during pregnancy the hormonal changes increase your risk for gingivitis. Without proper dental care gingivitis can lead to gum disease.

If you are a pregnant Utah County woman, my staff and I at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry recommend using a soft bristled toothbrush for daily brushing. Floss carefully and rinse your mouth with a fluoride wash. If you experience morning sickness, clean your mouth with a baking soda and water mixture.

If you are planning to become pregnant, it is a good idea to have a cleaning and general dentistry exam prior to your pregnancy. If you need any dental procedures, it is a good idea to get them done as soon as possible. If you experience any dental problems during your pregnancy please call and schedule an appointment at 801-374-0070. Untreated dental disease can effect your overall health.

At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry we not only offer excellent family dentistry care to our pregnant clients, we provide quality preventative care and cosmetic dentistry for the entire family. Our Utah County patients can expect professional cosmetic dentistry, porcelain veneers, and laser dentistry.

Tooth Sensitivity Treatment in Provo

Dental Services For Sensitive Teeth In Provo Have you ever been eating an ice cream cone in Provo when you felt a sudden jolt of pain in one of your teeth? If the enamel is eroded, or the gums have receded, the dentin layer of the tooth is exposed. The substances that cause tooth pain travel to the pulp where the nerves of the tooth are located. Ouch!

Tooth sensitivity can be a signal that something is wrong. It may be caused by periodontal disease or bacteria build-up in a crack in a tooth.

Enamel erosion can be caused by a number of factors including acidic foods and drinks, teeth grinding, or cracked teeth. If your teeth are sensitive following a professional teeth whitening such as the ones we do here at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, the sensitivity will probably be gone in a few weeks.

Surprisingly, one cause of gum recession for our Provo general dentistry patients is brushing too hard. That’s right; it is possible to brush too hard!

If you experience constant or intermittent pain in your teeth or gums, call 801-374-0070 right away to make an appointment. Dr. Hammond takes tooth pain seriously.

At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry in Provo, we not only treat tooth sensitivity problems, we also perform entire smile makeovers for cosmetic dentistry patients in the Provo and Orem areas. You’ll find us in the 84604 zip code area.

Helping Your Smile Last a Lifetime

Raise Your Dental IQ In Orem

Cosmetic Dentist Orem

There are many simple things that the average Orem area resident can do to raise their Dental IQ and improve their oral health. One simple lesson involves bacteria, and everyone’s mouth has a lot of it.

But, don’t worry, bacteria per se isn’t the problem. Dental problems occur for Orem area cosmetic dentistry patients when the balance of bacteria becomes unhealthy. This is where brushing and flushing might come into play. Another precaution you can take to guard against the wrong kind of bacteria is to keep your toothbrush as far away from the toilet as possible, and close the lid of the toilet before you flush.

Make sure to wash your hands before you brush and floss. No exceptions!

When it comes to a good toothbrush, don’t get sentimental. The American Dental Association recommends replacing your toothbrush every three to four months. If you can avoid the unhealthy balance of bacteria in your mouth, you can avoid gum disease, tooth decay, as well as bad breath.

If you can avoid decay, it’s less likely that you will need more extensive dental work such as dental implants and crowns.

I’m Dr. Hammond and we are passionate about helping our patients have healthy mouths and beautiful smiles. If you would like to know more about a custom smile makeover or family dentistry in the Provo area, give us a call at 801-374-0070 and a member of our trust-building staff will answer any questions you have and schedule a consultation at your convenience.

Hammond Aesthetic & Family Dentistry Treats Cankers Sores, Lesions, and Fever Blisters

General Dentistry In Orem

At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, one of the most common complaints we hear from Orem general dentistry patients is problems with mouth sores.

There are many different kinds of oral lesions which can make eating and talking painful. Some are annoying yet harmless, while other sores are more serious and require medical intervention.

Though not contagious, the most common complaint is canker sores, which affect an estimated eighty percent of the Provo population. Canker sores can be attributed to stress, tissue irritation, or acidic foods. Dr. Hammond can prescribe a topical dental paste to relieve pain and guard against infection. Recurring canker sores can sometimes be a symptom of a larger health problem.

Another common complaint is fever blisters or cold sores, which are contagious fluid-filled blisters. Orem cold sore sufferers should be aware that they can become infected. At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we advise our patients on how to treat cold sores and avoid further breakouts.

Fungal infections and oral cancer can cause sores in the mouth and throat. See your Orem dentist if you experience any of the following:

Lumps or discolored patches in the mouth lasting longer than three weeks
Unusually large lesions
Multiple sores

Dr. Hammond remind patients that eating a well balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, and not smoking can all aid in oral health and hygiene.

To schedule an appointment, or ask about other oral concerns, contact Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry today at 801-374-0070.

Teeth: What Have They Done For You Lately?

General Dentistry Utah County

Welcome to the Utah County dental blog! Today we are going to look at the secret life of our teeth.

The shape of each tooth gives a clue to what it does. The incisors, or your front teeth, are sharp. They need to be because they are there to cut food and their curvature helps move food inside the mouth.

Behind the incisors, you find the canine teeth. Their roots go far into the jaw bone because they are designed to hold onto food and tear through it.

Premolars, found just behind the canines, are flat on the surface. This allows them to crush your food as you chew. And, finally, in the very back are the molars. They are large and have nice, flat chewing surfaces that help them to grind food down into smaller, more digestible pieces.

We’re Dr. Hammond, local Utah County dentists, and we hope you’ve enjoyed learning a little more about the different teeth in your mouth.
If you are in the Provo, Orem, or Utah County area and would like to make an appointment at our family dentistry practice, Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, please give us a call at 801-374-0070. We can schedule an appointment and tell you about cosmetic dentistry procedures such as teeth whitening or dental crowns.

If you’ve ever been interested in a smile makeover, come on in and we’ll discuss the possibilities. We want our Utah County dental patients to have healthy mouths and beautiful smiles. At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we offer comprehensive dental services including:

When Style And Oral Health Collide in Provo

Consult Your Provo Cosmetic Dentist Before Getting Oral Piercings

Oral piercing is a popular form of body-art in Provo, but just because it’s popular doesn’t mean it’s safe. We’re Dr. Hammond, dentists serving the Provo area. When our patients ask us about the safety of oral piercings, we make sure they understand the possible consequences.

First, Provo residents should know that infection is always a major concern with any piercing, but because the mouth is the perfect environment for breeding bacteria, oral piercings are especially problematic. Chewing, swallowing, and speaking can also be impaired by an oral piercing.

Oral piercings can lead to an increase in saliva flow and, possibly, excessive drooling, something my Provo dental patients generally want to avoid. (We don’t know anyone in Provo who thinks drooling is attractive.) Chipped or cracked teeth, damage to dental fillings, and metal sensitivity are other possible results.

Another serious risk associated with piercings that should concern Provo residents is nerve damage. Many people experience temporary numbness after a piercing, but for some, sensations never return. An injured nerve can also affect facial movements as well as your sense of taste.

Do you really want to risk looking like a stroke victim for the rest of your life?

If you’ve read through this and you’re still sure a tongue bar or lip piercing is for you, please consult your Provo area cosmetic dentist so they can help you make the safest decision possible for your dental health. If you are looking for a family or general dentistry practice, our friendly and professional staff here at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry would be happy to schedule an appointment for you. We offer sedation dentistry, porcelain veneers, Invisalign clear braces, and more!

We may even convince you that safe, effective cosmetic dentistry such as teeth whitening, veneers, or bonding would be a smarter and safer way to express your personality and boost your confidence. Give us a call today!

“Soft, Medium, or Buzz Lightyear?”

Family Dentistry Utah County At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, Dr. Hammond are often asked how to choose the most basic tool of oral hygiene, the toothbrush. Picking a toothbrush in Utah County can be as difficult as choosing a paint color, and there seems to be just as many choices.

If you have visited the dental section of your local Utah County grocery store or Walmart lately, you know what I am talking about. There are brushes with bristles of varying lengths, brushes that massage your gums, and brushes that change color when they are used up. (If I had to rate them purely on their fun factor, I would choose the Spiderman brush.)

Some toothbrush manufacturers claim their brushes freshen your breath or remove stains from your teeth. How do you choose?

One key factor is the firmness of the bristles. Hard bristles may be more effective for cleaning burnt steak off a grill or hard water deposits off a shower floor. However, this does not hold true for your teeth. Medium and firm brushes can damage your gums. Soft and extra-soft bristles are plenty stiff enough to clean plaque, food particles, and surface stains from your teeth. Soft bristles also offer more flexibility for hard-to-reach nooks and crannies.

After having cosmetic dental work or oral surgery in Utah County, especially anything involving soft tissue grafts, make sure you use an extra-soft brush and be careful!

When buying a toothbrush for a child in Utah County, make sure the brush feels comfortable in their hand. If the size and angle feels awkward, the child will be less likely to use it long enough to clean all areas of the mouth. Children do not necessarily need a child-sized tooth brush. Some kids can manage an adult size brush better than a short, narrow child size brush. If you are unsure, ask your Utah County family dentistry professionals at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry.

What about the electric types and water-shooters? Some Utah County folks like the feeling of vibrating bristles or a mini-squirt gun blasting away at the plaque. Utah County people with arthritis or other movement-inhibiting conditions can benefit from powered brushes which take some strain off hands and arm muscles.

Is your toothbrush doing the job? Schedule an exam at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry.

At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, our friendly and professional dental hygienists instruct our Utah County pediatric clients and adult patients on proper brushing and flossing. If you haven’t experienced a dental deep cleaning at our general dentistry practice, you don’t know how clean your teeth and gums can feel.

Schedule a thorough dental cleaning today by calling Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry at 801-374-0070. An outstanding feature of Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry is expertise and a patient-oriented team. We offer porcelain veneers and a full spectrum of restorative dental procedures.

Hammond Aesthetic & Family Dentistry Sealants Prevent Cavities For Provo Kids

Family Dentistry Provo Your child’s first dental exam at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry should occur when the first teeth are in, usually between six months and one year of age. During your child’s first family dentistry check up at our Provo office, we will tell you about sealants, a clear layer of plastic applied to the grooved surfaces of the teeth.

Sealants protect the teeth and prevent cavities by filling in the crevasses where food particles can get caught. They are especially effective in the back teeth where most cavities are found.

The application process takes only one short visit at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry. The teeth are cleaned, dried, and then liquid sealant is applied to teeth and hardened: it’s quick and painless. Your child will be able to eat right after the appointment.

Sealants are covered by most dental insurance plans. For Provo parents who pay out-of-pocket, sealants are still cost-effective considering the cavities and future visits that can be avoided. Some Provo dental insurance plans have age limitations for sealants. Check your policy if you are unsure of the qualifications. Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry recommends having sealants applied as early as possible.

If properly cared for, Hammond Aesthetic and General Dentistry sealants can last for many years, protecting your child during the most cavity-prone ages.

Diligent oral hygiene and refraining from biting into hard objects will help the sealants last longer. Dr. Hammond will check the sealants during routine dental visits and recommend re-application or repair if necessary.

Sealants, brushing and flossing, a balanced diet, and twice-yearly Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry dental visits are essential for pediatric dental health. For more information about sealants or the variety of cosmetic dental services we provide, contact Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry today.
