What is a Canted Midline?

Drs. Hammond consider many factors when designing a smile for a Orem smile makeover client. One of the smile design elements involved is the facial midline. The facial midline can be determined by drawing an imaginary line from the center of the eyebrows to the center of the two peaks in the top lip (Cupid’s bow).

The skilled Orem cosmetic dentists consider the length and angle of the facial midline to properly position porcelain crowns, veneers and dental implants. When front teeth restorations do not line up with the facial midline, it is called a canted midline. This is a common mistake found in the cosmetic work of inexperienced Orem cosmetic dentists.

We are Dr. Chris Hammond, DMD. We have been practicing dentistry in Provo since 1996. Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry is a full-service dental office located at 3575 North 100 East, Suite 200 in Provo. In addition to providing comprehensive examinations and deep cleanings for clients in the Orem area, we perform all types of tooth restorations.

When a tooth has decay or has been damaged, a dental restoration is needed to ‘restore’ the tooth to its previous intact condition. A dental filling is one of the most common and well-known types of restorations. A dental filling is used to repair decayed or damaged tooth surfaces. Most people have a few fillings in their mouth.

If you have old silver amalgam fillings, we can replace them with nearly-invisible fillings tooth colored. These fillings are made out of a strong composite resin. Many of our Orem general dentistry patients have replaced their old silver fillings with fillings matched to their teeth. You can improve your smile instantly and relatively inexpensively by getting rid of the ‘metal’.
