Our Orem Dental Team Takes Care Of You

Provo Dental Team

At Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry, each dental professional on our team allows our practice to operate smoothly and provide the highest caliber of dental care. Today’s Orem dentistry article will focus on the duties of a dental assistant.

You probably think of the dental assistant as: “The one who suctions my mouth while the dentist is working on me,” or “The one who attaches the bib around my neck,” and you are correct. However, his/her knowledge of patient care and dental lab procedures is probably more extensive than you realize.

Competent dental assistants work behind the scenes at Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry in Orem. They assist Drs. Drs. Hammond & Ellis during all dental procedures including basic oral examinations, tooth prep and cavity filling, as well as lengthy smile makeovers involving multiple procedures. Our competent assistants also work with our dental hygienists during dental cleanings and patient instruction.

When a dental client arrives for his/her appointment, the dental assistant has already been preparing for the visit. Before he/she is escorted to a comfortable chair in one of our pleasant patient rooms, the assistant has made sure the room is ready for the particular treatment being performed.

Whether the patient is receiving porcelain veneers, having their teeth whitened, undergoing a routine orthodontia adjustment, or settling in for a two-hour smile redesign with oral conscious sedation, the dental assistant has set the stage for a comfortable and efficient procedure.

At Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry, infection control is always foremost in our minds. Our dental assistants, dentists, and hygienists are vigilant about the sterilization of dental instruments and follow strict infection control protocols. The health of our patients and employees is our highest priority.

Dental assistants in Orem dental offices may also prepare tray setups, make impressions for restorations, schedule appointments, take x-rays, and maintain and retrieve patient records. They must have a keen eye for detail and an excellent memory as they organize and stock the many different dental supplies in a typical office.

Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry is located at 3575 N 100 E, Ste 200 in Provo, Utah. We provide general and cosmetic dental procedures. You can read more about our services at http://www.cosmeticdentistryutahcounty.com/about.htm.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Friday, February 18th, 2011

Oral Conscious Sedation Some people experience severe anxiety when undergoing dental treatment. With oral conscious sedation, it is possible to relax during dental procedures instead of being tense and fearful. Oral sedation dentistry, relaxation dentistry, conscious sedation and anxiety-free dentistry are all terms used to describe this type of treatment. In addition to alleviating anxiety, oral conscious sedation can help patients with a variety of conditions.

You may want to consider oral conscious sedation if you have any of the following issues:

  • Strong gag reflex
  • Fear of needles
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Fear and anxiety associated with dental treatment
  • Difficulty getting numb
  • A history of negative dental experiences
  • Trouble controlling body movement due to Parkinson’s disease, Cerebral Palsy or related condition
  • Need extensive dental treatment requiring lengthy dental visits

If you have avoided cosmetic dental treatment due to any of these factors, give us a call at 801-657-5633. We can give you more information about sedation dentistry options and help you determine which one is right for you. At Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry we do all we can to make your visit as comfortable as possible. We look forward to discussing your oral health and dental goals.

Serving Provo dental patients since 1996.

Sedation Dentistry In Provo

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

Provo sedation dentistry Many Provo dentistry patients have discovered the benefits of anxiety-free dentistry (sometimes called sleep dentistry). There are three main types of sedation options available in the Provo area.

Inhalation

Nitrous Oxide, sometimes called ‘laughing gas‘ has been used in Provo cosmetic dental offices for over a century, because, in many ways, it is an ideal sedative. It begins to work quickly, but then wears off as soon as the Provo dental patient stops inhaling it. Breathing nitrous oxide can produce warm tingling sensations and a feeling of euphoria.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral sedatives take longer to work than nitrous, but produce a calmer state for many nervous Provo dental patients. Triazolam and diazepam are common oral sedatives used in dentistry. These sedative medications are routinely prescribed by Provo physicians for anxiety, insomnia, and muscle spasms.

Oral sedation is a good sedation choice for anxious patients who require a lengthy dental procedure. After the dental visit, it takes a while for the medication to wear off. A Provo conscious sedation patient should not plan to drive home after undergoing oral sedation.

IV Sedation

Like nitrous, intra-venous sedation starts working immediately as the sedative enters the bloodstream. IV sedation usually produces the deepest state of relaxation. IV patients can dream away the entire procedure and wake up calm and relaxed.

To schedule a sedation dentistry consultation, call Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry at 801-657-5633. We have the answer for your dental anxiety.

Keep Teeth Healthy During Pregnancy

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Dental Cleanings During Pregnancy If you are pregnant, your oral health may be the last thing on your mind. However, many Orem women experience an increase in dental problems during pregnancy. This article contains important information for expectant Orem mothers and those planning to become pregnant.

At their general and cosmetic dentistry practice, Drs. Chris Hammond & Chad Ellis recommend having a thorough dental cleaning early in your pregnancy. Lying in a dentist’s chair can be uncomfortable during the last trimester. A professional cleaning performed by one of the skilled dental hygienists at Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry, along with diligent brushing and flossing, helps prevent gum problems that are often triggered by hormonal changes. The American Dental Association has found a positive correlation between periodontal disease and preterm deliveries and low birth weight.

If you are currently pregnant and have sore, swollen or bleeding gums, schedule an appointment today by calling 801-657-5633. Once the baby is here, it will probably be harder for you to make time for a dental visit.

If you receive dental treatment at Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry during your pregnancy, be sure to inform Dentist Drs. Chris Hammond & Chad Ellis that you are expecting. This will affect decisions about X-rays, pain relievers, antibiotics, and oral conscious sedation.

Hormonal changes cause an increase in plague production which can lead to decay. If you are eating many small meals during the day, take care to brush after eating. If you avoid sweet snacks, your teeth will be less likely to develop cavities.

Remember your oral care, nutrition, and lifestyle affect your baby. It is essential that you eat a healthy diet with a variety of foods. A poor diet can harm your baby’s tooth and bone development. Be sure to get enough calcium, iron, vitamins A, D and C, protein, and phosphorus. Your Orem Ob/Gyn can give you specific recommendations for your age, height, weight and medical conditions.

At Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we take special care of our clients who are expecting.
