Oral Rinses: An Extra Measure Of Tooth Protection For Utah County Kids

Oral Rinses: An Extra Measure Of Tooth Protection For Utah County Kids

Hello, We’re Drs. Hammond & Ellis of Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry. Utah County parents usually know the basics on children’s oral health: limit sugar, make sure they brush and floss regularly, take them to a family dentistry professional for twice-yearly exams and cleanings, discourage between-meal snacking, see that they get enough calcium and Vitamin D, etc. Many Utah County parents also give their kids fluoride supplements if their municipal water supply has an inadequate level of fluoride.

Is there anything else a concerned Utah County parent can do to promote children’s oral health? Yes! Have children use an oral rinse that contains fluoride.

Fluoride supplements help strengthen teeth that are still forming, but fluoride rinses help teeth that have already come in. A fluoride rinse is an added measure of protection.

We recommend Utah County children use an oral rinse after they brush and floss. They should swish it around in their mouth for thirty seconds or so, and then spit it out. (Make sure your child doesn’t swallow it!) This should be the last substance in their mouth before they go to bed. The fluoride will remain on the teeth and help prevent new cavities from forming. It can also help stop any demineralization that has already begun by accumulating in the tiny fissures and fortifying the enamel.

At Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we focus on preventative dentistry for Utah County families. We believe that today’s area children can enjoy healthy teeth for life.

In addition to all general dentistry procedures, we also offer complete smile makeovers. If you are interested in transforming your entire smile with precision cosmetic dentistry, call us at 801-657-5633 to schedule an appointment.

Do You Have Sore Gums?

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Affordable Provo Dentistry Every Orem general dentistry patient’s mouth provides a cozy home for over 600 types of bacteria. If you are diligent about oral hygiene and have healthy gums, these microbes usually don’t affect your health. However, if you have gum disease, bacteria can enter your bloodstream through your gums and cause problems.

Gingivitis is the term for the mild gum disease. At Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we routinely discover gingivitis in Orem area clients who are not even aware they have the condition.

The first signs of gingivitis are swollen, sore gums.

It is important for our Orem dental patients to understand that it is not normal for gums to bleed when they are brushed or flossed. If you haven’t had an oral examination in a while and live in the Orem area, call Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry at 801-657-5633. Drs. Hammond & Ellis thoroughly exams teeth and gums and takes time to discuss the results and recommendations with each Orem family dentistry patient.

Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry is a full-service dental practice at 3575 N 100 E, Ste 200, Provo, UT. We provide comprehensive general and cosmetic dentistry for clients who live in Orem and the nearby communities.

During your dentist consultation, we can discuss any cosmetic or restorative procedures in which you are interested. Some of the Orem procedures that we use to create perfect smiles are porcelain veneers, clear braces, dental implants and tooth whitening. Our hygienists are skilled professionals who perform the ultimate in dental deep-cleanings.

Oral health and overall health go hand in hand. Schedule a dental consultation today by calling 801-657-5633 or visiting us online at http://www.CosmeticDentistryUtahCounty.com.

Maybe you feel self-conscious about smiling with a mouth full of metal. I have good news for you: at Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we offer invisible braces.

My name is Drs. Hammond of Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry. My staff and I want you to feel great about your smile. The Dangers of Oral Piercing

Friday, January 13th, 2012

The Dangers of Oral Piercing If you live in the Provo area and are considering puncturing your lip or tongue, read this:

Infection
Your mouth is full of bacteria. Any opening in the tissue carries the risk of infection. The germs from your tongue and mouth can easily get into your bloodstream. Provo cosmetic dentists and doctors are continually treating serious infections caused by oral piercings. Oral infections can be a real problem, and should be a major consideration before getting an oral piercing.

Tooth Damage
It should come as no surprise that having a piece of metal bang around in your mouth can easily chip tooth enamel. Though tooth enamel is amazingly strong, once it’s chipped or cracked, it can only be restored with artificial material. Fortunately, Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry in Provo offers many tooth restoration options such as dental crowns and fillings, but our advice is to avoid the problem if you can.

Prolonged Bleeding and Swelling
The blood vessels in the tongue are often damaged when the tongue is pierced, causing prolonged bleeding and possible build-up of scar tissue. In some cases, the tongue swells up enough to block the airway.

Gum Recession
A number of periodontal disease studies have shown that wearing oral jewelry is linked to periodontal disease which can result in tooth loss. Periodontal disease, or ‘gum disease’, can cause gum recession and exposes the root of your teeth, potentially causing hyper sensitivity and pain. Again, our advice is to avoid the problem right from the start.

These are just a few of the dangers. Drs. Hammond & Ellis at Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry can give you more information about the risks of oral piercings. If you already have damage, call 801-657-5633 to schedule a consultation.

Bright Smiles In Utah County

Bright Smiles In Palmer

Hello Utah County! Do you want brighter, whiter teeth? Most Utah County folks notice their teeth dulling as the years go by, but some foods, drinks, and even mouthwashes can stain teeth at any age.

Over-the-counter tooth whitening products like kits, strips, or toothpastes may slightly lighten stains, but for a truly brilliant smile, Drs. Hammond & Ellis can help!

If you have dental veneers, bonding, or bridges, teeth whitening bleach will not lighten the stains and your whitened natural teeth will make your dental work look even duller in comparison. At Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we can recommend new cosmetic dental work, including veneers or bondings, if these have aged and discolored.

Remember, anything that can stain a white tee shirt can stain teeth.

Fortunately, brushing after meals can keep stains at bay, however with acidic foods or drinks, just rinse your mouth with water. Brushing right away can erode enamel, causing thinner teeth as we age.

Utah County in-office Zoom whitening takes about an hour and bleaches teeth to a whiter-than-ever brilliance. Take-home professional teeth whitening kits are also available at Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry and can produce the best results over time.

For more information on getting a younger and brighter smile, contact our caring staff for a smile brightening consultation today!

Cosmetic Dental Solutions in Provo

Friday, December 16th, 2011

Cosmetic Dental Solutions in Provo Provo cosmetic dentists use dental crowns to solve a number of dental dilemmas. A dental crown is a strong, natural-looking permanent tooth restoration that covers the top of the damaged tooth.

Provo family dentistry professionals recommend crowns to remedy the following problems:

  • A broken tooth with decay
  • An ill-fitting existing crown
  • A decayed tooth that has lost significant tooth structure
  • A tooth that has had a root canal
  • A tooth that is too small or misshapen
  • A tooth that causes a bite problem

Before your Provo cosmetic dentist can attach the crown to your tooth, we must prepare the tooth. Provo dentists often apply a local anesthetic so you won’t feel pain during the prepping. Your dentist will remove decay, if any, and shape the tooth to receive the crown. Then a mold is taken of the prepped tooth and surrounding teeth.

A temporary crown is then placed on the tooth to protect it until you return to your Provo general dentistry office to receive the permanent restoration. The patient needs to be careful while wearing the temporary crown. Vigorous brushing or flossing can displace the crown or damage the exposed soft tissue. The Provo dental crown patient should also refrain from eating extremely hard foods like nuts or sticky candy.

The mold of your teeth is sent to a local dental lab where your crown is built. Dental crowns are fabricated in three varieties: tooth colored crowns made of resin or porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-metal, and solid metal crowns. Each type has its pros and cons. Your Provo cosmetic dentist at Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry will choose the best crown material for your particular tooth.

What if you need a permanent dental restoration for both the top and root of your tooth? A dental implant is your answer.

For more information about complete dental restorations and other cosmetic dental solutions, call Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry at 801-657-5633 today.

What is a Canted Midline?

Friday, December 9th, 2011

Orem Cosmetic DentistsDrs. Hammond & Ellis consider many factors when designing a smile for a Orem smile makeover client. One of the smile design elements involved is the facial midline. The facial midline can be determined by drawing an imaginary line from the center of the eyebrows to the center of the two peaks in the top lip (Cupid’s bow).

The skilled Orem cosmetic dentists consider the length and angle of the facial midline to properly position porcelain crowns, veneers and dental implants. When front teeth restorations do not line up with the facial midline, it is called a canted midline. This is a common mistake found in the cosmetic work of inexperienced Orem cosmetic dentists.

Most Orem dentistry patients do not realize the level of 3-D engineering required in cosmetic dentistry. In addition to the orientation in relation to the facial midline, there is also the angle and size of the teeth in relation to each other and in relation to the size and shape of the lips and gums.

If you are considering an extensive smile makeover, you do not want to trust your smile to an inexperienced Orem cosmetic dentist. When you have a smile design consultation with Drs. Hammond & Ellis feel free to ask probing questions about their experience and technical design procedures. We are confident that you will feel comfortable choosing Drs. Hammond & Ellis for your smile makeover.

Hammond & Ellis Aesthetic & General Dentistry is located at 3575 N 100 E, Ste 200 in Provo. We offer a full range of general and cosmetic dental procedures. Ask us about veneers, clear braces, tooth whitening and family dentistry. We look forward to meeting you. Call us today at 801-657-5633.
